Room 4 Gorge
Double bed room | bunk bed
Dovžan Gorge was fluted into ancient earthy stratum layers – conglomerates, limestones, sandstones and clay – by the steep mountain stream of Tržič Bistrica. The river boils over unique waterfall fence of big rounded blocks of white flintstone conglomerate. These big blocks rolled into the river from the Pine’s Crag that got its name from red pine trees that grow on its steep slopes. The Gorge is spectacular because of six tall rock towers (called the Towers of Kušpegar) where climbing routes are settled. There’s an interesting geological path going through – forest, hill, scenic path that leads to partisan printing works. In small village Čadovlje there’s also old Jamenšnik House built in 1766, which is a sample of unique Karavanks architecture with all of its ethnographic characteristics. Dovžan Gorge that is situated 3 km north of Tržič, on the road Tržič-Jelendol, is protected as Monument of Nature due to unique location of fossilized plant and animal life – in crockery of ancient times of Palaeozoic. Here for the first time they found many species of brachiopods and the sphaeric fusulinid Carniolian Schwagerina (Schwagerina carniolica).
